Welcome To The Foreman Knowledge Base

Upcoming July Release

Over the next couple of weeks, we will roll out our new Offline Locations feature and related updates. Below is an overview of the pending changes.

Navigation Update

The What

We are adding a new expandable “Operations” section to the left-hand navigation and moving Assets and Inventory as sub-menu items (along with our new Offline Locations). See image below.

The Why

As we continue to add more features to the application, our left-hand navigation is becoming somewhat unwieldy. By consolidating Assets, Inventory, and Offline Locations under this new Operations menu, we can add more functionality while maintaining a clean, intuitive user experience.

Offline Locations

The What

We are introducing a new Offline Locations feature to enhance the tracking of miners, other assets, and inventory throughout their lifecycle. This feature is included as part of our Assets and Inventory module.

The Why

The focus of this set of improvements was twofold: 1) More accurate tracking of asset movement throughout the asset’s lifecycle and 2) Tighter integration between miners and the Assets module in Foreman. Here are a few key feature highlights:

  • Centrally managed list of offline locations with location types (room, pallet, shelf, cart, box).
  • Optional limits on the number of assets or inventory items that can be assigned to an offline location (e.g. a pallet can only hold a certain number of miners).
  • Ability to group offline locations for easier tracking (e.g. group by building, shipment tracking number, etc.).
  • Logging of miner site map assignments in the linked asset’s history and assignment of offline location for miner assets in the miner details page and audit log.
  • Throughout the application, automatic display of the sitemap location or offline location, depending on the miner's state.
  • Automated conversion of existing Asset and Inventory “locations” to new Offline Locations to ease adoption.

Updated Pull Miner Flow

The What

Slight user experience update of the Pull Miner workflow to improve usability.

The Why

The Pull Miner action is the preferred method for removing miners from the sitemap while maintaining accurate data; however, customer feedback indicated that it was confusing and difficult to navigate. When using the pull miner workflow, miners will automatically be disabled. Users can then optionally assign an offline miner state (e.g., in repair, in storage, retired), assign an offline location, and/or open a ticket.

We’ll post another banner announcement when these features go live, but feel free to reach out to product@obm.io if you have any questions.
