Quick Guide: Estimated Miner Load

Estimated Miner Load helps you understand site-level consumption and overall efficiency. The presented is represents the total estimated power draw for eligible miners enabled miners. Eligible miners include any miner that meets the following criteria:

  • Enabled
  • Reported stats within the last 5 minutes
  • Connected to an online Pickaxe
  • Visible in the current view (client, global filters, etc)

How we calculate the estimated miner load depends on a number of factors. Below is a more detailed explanation of how the system works so that you can better understand how to interpret the numbers displayed throughout the application and reports. For each eligible miner, the system follows the following steps to determine which value, prioritizing higher-accuracy sources where available.

1. Smart PDU Available

If the miner is connected to a Smart PDU, Foreman uses the actual power measurements from the PDU. Smart PDUs provide the most accurate load measurement.

2. No Smart PDU – Use Firmware Data

If there’s no Smart PDU available, Foreman will estimate miner load using the firmware’s reported values. These typically include power consumption metrics provided by the miner’s onboard software. In instances where the miner has an integrated voltage meter, the value can often be highly accurate. Otherwise, the miner firmware estimates the power draw, and the accuracy of these values can vary across different miner types and firmware providers.

3. Miner-Specific Overrides

If an override value has been set for a miner, Foreman will use this number in the absence of Smart PDU or firmware readings.

Override values may come from the miner setup process (for example, the manufacturer’s “nameplate” rating).

These values can also be edited later by the user on the Miner details page.

4. No Override Values – Use Nameplate Data

If there are no overrides provided, Foreman falls back to the nameplate values—the manufacturer’s published power consumption ratings. This ensures an estimate is always available, even if no other data sources exist.

Important Note on Accuracy

The only way to achieve 100% accuracy is to deploy smart PDUs throughout the mine and ensure they are correctly configured on the site map. The other methods we leverage are estimates only, and actual power draw may differ. While Foreman attempts to use the best data available, this number should not be considered exact.
