Welcome To The Foreman Knowledge Base

Quick Guide: Asset Warranty Expiration

We’re excited to announce a new addition to the Foreman suite: the Asset Warranty Expiration feature — built to make it easier than ever to track and manage your device warranties across Foreman.

This feature provides clear visibility into warranty statuses, helping your team proactively prioritize maintenance, replacements, and vendor claims before warranties expire.

Assets

Warranty Expiration Column

A new Warranty Expiration Date field has been added as a system field for Assets. This eliminates the need for manually creating a custom field for warranty tracking, providing consistent warranty data for your reporting and workflows.

Filtering

With the addition of the new field, we have introduced additional opportunities to filter using the Warranty Expiration information. Three new filters have been introduced:

  • Warranty Status - single or multi-select from one of the following:
    • Under Warranty: devices have a warranty date in the future

    • Out of Warranty:  devices have a warranty date in the past

    • Unknown Warranty Date: devices don't have a warranty date

  • Warranty Expires After - date picker to filter for devices that expire after the set date
  • Warranty Expires Before - date picker to filter for devices that expire before the set date
    • Tip: You can use these two date filters together to find upcoming warranty expiration dates that may impact your business monthly, quarterly, etc.

How-To: Transitioning from a Custom Warranty Field

If your organization previously tracked warranty details using a custom field, you can now switch to the new system Warranty Expiration Date field to take advantage of its enhanced functionality and built-in configuration options. You can also add or update Warranty Expiration Dates in bulk using the Upload Assets template or through the /assets API for automated updates.

Bulk Upload - Move Custom Field

Follow these steps to move a Custom Field into the new system field:

  1. Navigate to Operations >  Assets

  2. On the Assets table, click Upload Assets

  3. Choose CSV Upload

  4. Click to Download current assets

  5. Open the file in an editor

  6. Format your current warranty dates to match the YYYY-MM-DD format

  7. Copy and paste the warranty date for the corresponding device into the column

  8. Save your CSV file and navigate back to Foreman

  9. Re-upload the updated file to apply your changes

  10. Once these dates are uploaded, you can now remove your custom field

Bulk Upload - Add or Edit

Follow these steps if you're looking to manually bulk add in or edit Warranty Dates:

  1. Navigate to Operations >  Assets

  2. On the Assets table, click Upload Assets

  3. Choose CSV Upload

  4. Click to Download current assets

  5. Open the file in an editor

  6. Add or edit the Warranty Expiration Date column in the downloaded file

  7. Save your CSV file and navigate back to Foreman

  8. Re-upload the updated file to apply your changes

Miners

Warranty Expiration Column

A new Warranty Expiration Date column has been added as a system field for Miners. This eliminates the need for manually creating a custom field for warranty tracking, providing consistent warranty data for your reporting and workflows.

  • To add in this column, go to the Miners page, change your view to Table, then select the gear icon to customize your columns, search for the Warranty Expiration Date, then click Save

Tickets

Warranty Status Column

The Tickets table now includes two new columns: the Warranty Date column, and the second is the Warranty Status. Each ticket automatically displays one of the following statuses based on the devices associated with it:

  • In Warranty – All devices on the ticket have a warranty date in the future

  • Out of Warranty – All devices have a warranty date in the past

  • Mixed – Some devices are in warranty, and others are out

  • Unknown – All devices on the ticket are missing a warranty date

Warranty Status Filter

With the addition of the new columns, you can now filter and sort your tickets by the Warranty Status or Warranty Date.

Device Panel in Ticket Details

Within the Ticket Detail view, you’ll now see the Warranty Date displayed in the Device Panel. This allows you to instantly confirm warranty coverage while reviewing ticket details — no extra navigation required.

There is also an "Expiring Soon" for devices that have a warranty date within 30 days of the current date. Hovering over this status, you will see the number of days remaining, as well as the expiration date.

What's Coming Up Next

  • Expiring Soon Status: Based on customer feedback, we are adding a "Expiring Soon" status in addition to "Out of Warranty" and "Under Warranty". Assets with a warranty expiration date within the next 30 days will have a status of "Expiring Soon".
  • Warranty Expiration and Warranty Status Columns: Based on customer feedback, we are adding the warranty status column to the Miners page and the warranty expiration date column to the Tickets page. Users can customize either of those tables to show one, either, or neither of those columns to best suit their needs.
  •  Auto-retrieval of warranty expiration dates for Bitmain and Whatsminers assets (Postponed)- Note we've made the decision to pause our effort to develop an integration with the Bitmain and Whatsminer warranty APIs to auto-retrieve expiration dates. If users feel this would be of significant value, please voice your interest in the idea board.
