Welcome To The Foreman Knowledge Base

Quick Guide: Custom Issues

We're pleased to announce Custom Issues, a new enhancement that gives you greater control over the Issues feature.

For most customers, our System Issues work well to identify minor issues. However, for more sophisticated workflows, Custom Issues allows you to combine multiple parameters into a single issue that fits your specific needs. You can now design custom issues that match your processes and turn off system-generated issues whenever they're not relevant.

Custom issues must be created from the group owner client (or standalone client) and will apply across all sub-clients.

What's New

Custom Issues builds on our existing Issues functionality with two key capabilities:

  • Create custom issues – Design issues that match your specific needs and processes by combining multiple parameters
  • Toggle system issues – Turn off default system issues that aren't relevant to your work

This guide will show you how to make the most of these new tools.

Navigation

Custom Issues will replace your existing Issues section from the left-hand menu.

To create a new custom issue, you'll click the Manage Issues button, then Add Custom Issue.

Dashboard Overview

The Custom Issues page retains the familiar Miner Status and Miners Needing Attention tiles from the original Issues page, working exactly as they did before.

Miner Status (Pie Chart)

This visual dashboard shows the percentage of miners in each status—such as active, inactive, and others—using an easy-to-read pie chart. It gives you an at-a-glance view of your miners' overall health and activity.

The chart is interactive: click on any status segment to hide or show it, letting you see how that particular status affects the overall distribution.

Miners Needing Attention

This stat block displays the proportion of miners requiring your attention using a simple fraction:

  • Top number: Miners currently experiencing problems
  • Bottom number: Your total miner count

The color of these numbers provides immediate visual feedback:

  • Red: Failures detected
  • Orange: Warnings present, but no failures
  • No color: All miners are healthy

This makes it easy to quickly assess whether action is needed across your mining operations.

Issues Table

The Issues table functions as it did previously, but now includes new columns and enhanced capabilities.

Filters and Export

At the top of the table, you'll find two key tools:

Filters – Click to filter your issues by name or type (custom or system). This helps you quickly narrow down to the issues you need to review.

Export – Downloads a complete export of all your issues in the background. The export includes comprehensive data for each miner: Miner ID, Miner Name, Miner Type, Status, Location Group Name, Location Rack Name, Location Row, Location Index, and the current status of each issue (shown as TRUE or FALSE in individual columns).

For clients with Custom Issues enabled, the export includes both System Issue and Custom Issue columns.

Table Columns

The table displays the following information:

  • Name – The issue title. Hover over any name to see its full description.
  • Status – Shows the count of miners in each status category.
  • Type – Indicates whether the issue is System (default), Group, or Custom.
  • Count – The total number of miners affected by this issue.
  • Show Miners – A link to view all miners associated with this issue.

This layout gives you a clear overview of all issues at a glance, with easy access to detailed information when you need it.

View Miners With Issues

To see which miners are affected by a specific issue, click the Show Miners link on the far right of the table. This opens in your current tab, displaying the Miners table, automatically filtered to show only the miners with that particular issue.

Manage Issues

To create or modify issues, click the Manage Issues button in the upper-right corner of the Issues page. This opens a new table where you can make changes to existing issues or create new ones.

When you're finished, simply click the Back button to return to the main Issues page.

Manage Issues Table

This table displays all your issues with the following columns:

  • Name – The issue title
  • Description – A brief explanation of the issue
  • Type – Whether the issue is System, Group, or Custom
  • Menu (⋮) – Click to access Edit, Deactivate/Activate, or Delete options
    • Note: Delete is only available for custom issues and empty groups that have no associated issues. System issues cannot be deleted, but they can be deactivated instead.

The table includes filters that let you search by name, type, or description, making it easy to find specific issues.

Add Issue Group

Click the Add Custom Issue button in the top right corner to open the modal where you can group issue types for better organization. The name of the group is required and a description is optional. You'll use this Issue Group when creating or editing Custom Issues in the next step.

Edit/View Custom Issue

Clicking into a specific issue takes you to the edit page, where you can modify all aspects of your custom issue.

System Issues

As mentioned earlier, we've retained all the original issue types and labeled them as System Issues.

System Issues can be toggled between Active and Deactivate. This is useful when you've created a custom issue that already covers the same ground as a system issue—in these cases, you can deactivate the system issue to keep your Issues page clean and focused, eliminating redundant warnings and alerts.

Global Filters

Once you've configured your Custom Issues and Issue Groups, you can apply them as Global Filters throughout the Foreman application.

How to Apply Global Filters

  1. Click the filter icon in your dashboard
  2. Select Custom Issues from the filter options
  3. Choose your filter criteria by:
    • Selecting an individual issue by name, OR
    • Selecting an issue group by name

These filters will be applied across the Foreman application to help you quickly identify and monitor specific mining issues.

Next Version

Coming up, we'll be working to integrate custom issues more deeply throughout the system. This includes expanding trigger functionality to support custom issues, enabling you to set up notifications and automated actions based on the personalized issues you create. Stay tuned for these enhancements in future releases.
