Adding Miners to Your Dashboard
Pickaxe automatically queries Foreman every 2 minutes and downloads a new configuration based on the miners you've added to your dashboard.
Prerequisites
Before adding miners, ensure that:
- You've successfully downloaded and configured Pickaxe.
- Use this guide for detailed steps on how to install.
- Pickaxe appears on the Pickaxe page from your left-hand navigation menu.
Adding a Single Miner
Step 1: Verify Miner Configuration
Verify that your miner is running with the API enabled. Navigate to Supported Miners from the left-hand navigation menu for the command line arguments you need to provide.
Step 2: Access the Add Miner Form
Click the Add Miner button located in the top-left corner, or access it directly from the Pickaxe page.
Step 3: Complete the Form
- Select Pickaxe: Choose which Pickaxe will query this miner. We recommend renaming your Pickaxes on the Pickaxe page so they have unique, identifiable names.
-
Enter IP Address: Use your miner's Private (LAN) IP address:
- If Pickaxe is running on the miner itself, you may use
127.0.0.1 - If Pickaxe is running on a different computer, this is typically something like
192.168.X.Y - Note: This is NOT your Public (WAN) IP address.
- If Pickaxe is running on the miner itself, you may use
Step 4: Wait for Sync
Wait up to 3 minutes for the miner's health status to transition from Waiting for first sync.
Adding Multiple Miners (Bulk Import)
Once your Pickaxe is running, you can perform a bulk import of miners directly to your dashboard.
Note: Bulk importing miners is currently only available for ASIC devices.
How to Bulk Import
- Navigate to the Pickaxe page.
- On the Pickaxe that will be querying the miners, click the Find Miners button.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the bulk import.
Troubleshooting
Unable to Add a Miner
You cannot add a miner if there are no active Pickaxe installations. Check your Getting Started guide and ensure Pickaxe is properly installed and running.
Miner Stuck at Waiting for First Sync
If your miner remains at Waiting for first sync after 3 minutes, Pickaxe is having trouble communicating with the mining software's API.
Common Causes and Solutions
1. Verify Mining Software Configuration
Your mining software must be run with the appropriate API configuration. Refer to the Supported Miners page from the left-hand navigation menu for the exact parameters required. Failure to configure these settings will make the miner unreachable.
2. Check Pickaxe Logs
To diagnose the issue:
- Navigate to your Pickaxe installation folder.
- Open the
logsfolder. - Open the
pickaxe.logfile. - Look for
WARNorERRORmessages indicating connection failures. - Important: Check the bottom of the log file for the most recent messages.
3. Adjust Network Profile (Windows)
The easiest fix is to change your network profile from Public to Private. This allows Windows to recognize that you're on your own private network and permits communication between machines. Follow this article to change your network profile.
4. Temporarily Disable Firewall
If you believe everything is configured correctly and Pickaxe still cannot connect:
- Temporarily disable your firewall:
- Windows: Turn off Windows Firewall
- Linux: Disable Linux iptables
- Check if Pickaxe can now communicate.
- If successful, re-enable your firewall and allow LAN connections:
- Windows Guide - select TCP protocol.
