Welcome To The Foreman Knowledge Base

Quick Guide: Power

This article covers how to use Saved Controls to power your miners up and down, as needed or on schedule.

If you're enrolled in a Demand Response program or have any other forms of mandatory curtailment that you must perform, please contact us for details on how we can get you fully automated so your site is curtailed and ramped back up with no manual intervention.

Power Parameter Definitions

  1. Power Direction

    • Up – Powers miners on

    • Down – Powers miners off

    • Dispatch - Powers miners off and then back on
  2. Target Miners

    • All Miners – Applies the saved controls to all active miners

    • Subset of Miners – Choose a grouping type (e.g., Pickaxe, Miner Type) and select values to include only specific miners

    • Subset of Miners Excluding – Choose a grouping type and values to exclude specific miners from the saved control

  3. Target Time

    • Enter a time interval (in minutes) to stagger the powering up or down of miners evenly over the specified duration

Dashboard TilesScreenshot 2025-09-04 at 12.09.16 PM.png

  • Available Miners
This tile shows the percentage of miners currently available for curtailment. The numerator counts only active miners that are healthy, have reported stats within the last 5 minutes, are online in Pickaxe, and support power mode commands. The denominator includes all active miners in Foreman—excluding any that are disabled. This metric helps you quickly assess how much of your fleet is ready for automated control.
  • Power Draw
This tile displays both the estimated miner load and the metered site load. Estimated miner load is calculated from available device data, while metered site load comes from real-time site telemetry. Together, these values provide both a detailed view of miner demand and an accurate measurement of total site usage.
  • Power Cost
This tile displays an estimated 24-hour power cost based on the wattage values assigned to your miners and the power price configured in your settings. By default, Foreman uses manufacturer nameplate specs to calculate usage, but you can customize these values per miner for more accurate estimates. Adjustments can be made in the Miner Details page as needed.

Command Center

This is the first section within the Power menu navigation. Your Command Center holds your events, commitments, and a link to your settings.

Pause and Unpause Recurring Events

You can pause and resume recurring power controls, giving you more flexibility in managing your automated power schedules.

  • Pause Recurring Power Controls
Need to temporarily stop a recurring power control without deleting it? You can pause any recurring power control to prevent it from executing future occurrences while keeping your configuration intact.
  • Easy Identification
Paused power controls are clearly marked in the interface, so you can quickly identify which schedules are currently active and which are on hold.
  • View All Paused Controls
Access a dedicated view to see all your paused power controls in one place, making it easy to manage and track which schedules you've temporarily disabled.
  • Resume When Ready
When you're ready to reactivate a power control, simply resume it, and it will continue executing on its defined schedule.
  • Audit Trail
All pause and resume actions are automatically logged for audit purposes, ensuring you have full visibility into changes made to your power control schedules.

Committments

Note: Commitments are only supported for a subset of our power partners and power programs. If you don't have access to Commitments but think it would help your team accomplish their goals, please contact your customer success rep to discuss.

A Commitment refers to a user-defined agreement to manage power usage within specific parameters as dictated by a program or contract. You can set power commitments and adjust power usage by reducing or adjusting amounts. Multiple commitments can be created for the same program, but their start and end dates must not overlap. These commitments help ensure compliance with the terms of awarded contracts or bids.
